Last year, Sara Golemon announced a vote for PHP 8.1 release manager.
The roles of the release managers are about being a facilitator:
But they are not:
Decide which features, extension or SAPI get in a release or not.
I've been maintaining the Russian translation of the PHP documentation for several years now, we're the first ones to complete the translation 100% and keep it up to date, and I wanted to contribute even more to the community, so I applied for election.
Over the course of the year, I expanded my area of responsibility: I helped translate the German and French documentation and wrote the English documentation.
Over the year, my fervor didn't fade, I still wanted to contribute even more to the community that I love so much, I waited for the call for applications by March-April 2022, but there wasn't one.
I had a thought that once the PHP Foundation was organized, the release process might also have changed and release managers would be chosen from among the Foundation members — which turned out not to be the case.
In early May, Christoph announced a call for volunteer candidates and I put my hat in the ring, with Ben further moderating the election process.
As a result of the vote, the PHP 8.2 release managers were Ben Ramsey (as a "veteran") and two "rookies", Pierrick Charron and me.
I'd like to say thank you to all those who voted for me, thank you for your support and, of course, your trust.
I look forward to working with Ben and Pierrick, PHP 8.2 Alpha 1 should be out in less than a month, I believe we have a lot of work ahead of us.
So let's do it!
